by George Bletsis

Fri, Oct 13, 23 / James BDP

This week we are releasing the latest set in George Bletsis' ‘Home Botanicals’ prints series, this time featuring four very prickly globular cacti.

Featuring the infamous peyote cactus (Lophophora williamsii)  and also the smallest cactus in the world (Blossfeldia liliputana), these four fascinating species make a fine addition to both the print and the plant collection.

The prints are on sale now in our shop. The are on hand and will ship immediately.

"Lophophora williamsii, better known as peyote, is a small spineless cactus native to Mexico and Southern USA. Known for its psychoactive properties when ingested, peyote has at least 5,500 years of entheogenic and medicinal use by indigenous North Americans."

"Astrophytum asterias is a species of cactus native to small parts of Texas in the United States and Mexico. Common names include sand dollar cactus, sea urchin cactus, star cactus and star peyote. It has been a popular house plant since the 1840s and the popularity of this species among collectors and enthusiasts has ensured that a number of cultivars are available. One such cultivar is the 'Super Kabuto', a clonally propagated variety whose large trichomes congregate into dense spots, arranged in a striking pattern.

Due to habitat loss Astrophytum asterias is now considered endangered in the USA."

"Blossfeldia liliputana is a cactus native to Northern Argentina and Bolivia. It is of note as the smallest cactus species in the world, with a mature size of around 10–12 mm diameter. The species is named after the fictional country of Lilliput, where all of the inhabitants are minute."
